SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

The notion of sustainable development was introduced by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) in 1980 in its report The World Conservation Strategy. It is defined as "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own" (Definition proposed in 1987 by the World Commission on Environment and Development, in its report entitled Our Future for All ).
